We sadly see a lot of what Apostle Paul called foolish arguments, especially on social media platforms today. Let’s take a look at that scripture together from 2 Timothy 2:23-24:
Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.
Sometimes we need to be reminded of this truth, don’t we? I know we can all get stirred up, but we need to make sure that we are honest with ourselves, each other, and most of all before God. We are supposed to be a witness to the world but when pride rears it’s ugly head we see Christians get into foolish arguments in front of all to see. Have you ever fallen into this trap?
Sometimes we may justify our anger and even over-spiritualize it to rationalize, what is frankly, our ugly flesh that wants to throw a temper tantrum. Let’s be real, just because we may “feel“ angry does not mean it’s the Holy Spirit’s righteous anger in us. Just because we may “feel” upset does not mean it’s the Holy Spirit that is grieved. It may just be us. The scripture above says, “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments. That’s a very clear scripture.
I want to encourage us to remember the difference between the fruit of the Holy Spirit and the flesh that the Bible says opposes the Holy Spirit. For example, Galatians 5:22-23 says:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.
The word “oppose” means direct opposition. Picture two boxers in their corners about ready to fight, they are in direct opposition. This is the picture of how our flesh acts against the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:17 says:
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Let’s Pray: Father God, we thank You for Your amazing love and grace. Lord help us to stay humble and remember Who You are and who we are in You. Help us to take responsibility for ourselves so You may have Your way in us and through. Help us to be slow to anger and abounding in Your love. May we be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave us (Eph 4:32). May we be keenly aware of the abundant grace and mercy that we are receiving from You Father, and therefore, may we quick to give grace to one another in Jesus Name Amen.
Do you have any examples of where your flesh got the best of you? Would love to hear your comments below!
God bless you all. ALWAYS in His love and grace, walking WITH you.
Love your sis, Sybella Owens
