In reply to <a href="https://sybellaowens.com/how-to-discern-and-test-the-spirit/#comment-148">Karen Rise</a>.

Thank you so much Karen for sharing this Godly wisdom! It is SO incredibly true. We learn from our mistakes and while it is hard like you are talking about, even very painful at times, we do learn. In fact it was of the main ways dare I say to learn discernment. If we don't make mistakes then we have nothing to weigh it up against. I remember the Lord gave me a word that has gratefully stuck with me over the years and I hold on to it and say it often, just as much to myself as to encourage others...in fact I apologize if I already said it in this post LOL! It is that everything is an opportunity for growth. We have "growing pains" sometimes but boy when we learn and God uses it for good, how amazing it is! Thanks so much for sharing your heart and experiences and you are welcome to anytime!

This may sound contradictory - but who would contradict God. . .
He is my Father. Jesus saved me by His blood. I long to learn from Him every day. Yet to get where I am today, I have come through huge "mistakes". I put that word in quotes because God has used (those) to teach me about myself and my relationship to Him; my life in Him. If you had asked me during those times of "mistakes" about my logic or discernment of (God') plan for me at the time, I would have told you I felt sure that I was hearing from Him...only to discover that His perfect plan was, in fact, that I learn about my own soul and spirit through those mistakes. Who ever goes into a venture wanting to make mistakes - no we want the perfect solution to our predicament...(I smile, because I see that I thought that perfect meant that I would be perfectly "happy" ) ...when I wasn't happy I called it a mistake...so, for me, learning to discern is not only extremely contingent on following His word, but also on following my own heart; and taking the consequences of that action as a true college...turning to Him in love so that He may work it all for my good. He is so gracious. It is hard, however, to turn from (even well-meaning) friends who think they know what's best for me; as if they have discernment for me...of course if I had consulted with friends before I made a "mistake" then maybe I would not have made it...but would I have really learned about myself ...and would I have understood so awestruckedly (my new word) as I have now ...how very much my Father wants a real relationship with ME? Thanks for the opportunity to say all this here!

A. Marie, I totally agree. Staying in the Word, being in-tune with Holy Spirit is crucial! Discernment really is such a protection as well, as well as developing intimacy with Jesus. Yes! Thanks for sharing this tips and for reading and sharing. God bless you!
